The Speaker of the Polish Parliament lower chamber (Sejm) announced the date of the upcoming presidential elections in Poland. The first ballot will be held on 18 May, and if the new president’s choice requires a second round, it shall be held on 1 June.
“As announced – within the first constitutionally possible deadline. I have just sent the order to the PKW’s Chairman and Prime Minister. The government will publish it in the Journal of Laws later today. The election campaign is beginning,” Szymon Hołownia wrote on his X account.

According to Article 128, point 2, of the Polish Constitution, the President of the Lower House orders presidential elections.
According to Hołownia’s announcement, the elections will formally be called on Wednesday, 15 January – a deadline due to the constitutional provision that elections cannot be held within 90 days after the end of a state of emergency.
The government’s declaration of calamity following the September floods was lifted on 16 October 2024, so the 90-day period expires on 14 January 2025.
Now the electoral committee will be able to register their candidates for the top office in the country.

As for today, the main political groupings in Poland nominated following candidates: Rafał Trzaskowski (KO), Karol Nawrocki (non-partisan, supported by PiS), Szymon Hołownia (Trzecia Droga), Sławomir Mentzen (Konfederacja), Magdalena Biejat (Lewica), Adrian Zandberg (Razem).
