On Tuesday, President Karol Nawrocki announced plans to establish a Council for the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad. He also revealed that the situation of Poles living in Germany had been one of the topics raised during his talks with Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Speaking at a press conference in Paris, the President was asked whether he would support the idea of granting the diaspora direct representation in the Polish parliament. He described the proposal as “very interesting,” recalling that he had first encountered it during the election campaign. “I have never been its outright opponent,” he added.
Nawrocki stressed the importance he attaches to Poles abroad, noting that if “sensible legislative solutions” are put forward, he would certainly not oppose them. He confirmed that the Presidential Palace is ready to engage in debate on these matters and pledged to set up a dedicated Council for the Polish Diaspora in the near future.
The President also reminded journalists that his office already includes a minister responsible for relations with Poles abroad – Agnieszka Jędrzak – assuring that the Presidential Palace would continue to provide support for initiatives concerning the diaspora.
