Just an hour after having arrived in London, Polish immigrant Kamil Sobala (31) received a severe beating on the streets of the capital while reportedly asking for directions.
Mr Sobala used to live in the UK a decade ago 2013. He went back to Poland for a while before deciding to move to London once again, this time with several friends.
Last Saturday evening, he arrived at Victoria Station where he asked some Brits for directions. “I wanted to know where to go to charge my phone and where the underground station was” – he told Metro.
“Instead of them just saying ‘sorry I can’t help you’ they swore at me. Then they asked me where I was from, and I said Poland […] Then they started beating me. It’s terrible. I’m just scared of going to the shop I can’t sleep, and I’m scared as well as full of pain […] My back is painful and so is my eye, cheek, and face” – he complained.
Kamil Sobala has no doubt about the fact that he fell victim to an act of violence based on hatred of his nationality. “They didn’t start attacking me until I said I was from Poland” – he emphasised.
A person from inside a nearby pub recorded what appears to be the Pole getting punched while on the floor by a man in a grey suit. Metropolitan Police did not make it on time, as the suspects left quickly.
Kamil Sobala was taken to hospital, where he woke up in à state of shock and still “shaken by the experience”.
