“Intruder” is a bilingual (English-Polish) solo play, written and performed by Polish actor Remi Rachuba, and directed by Marcus Montgomery Roche.
The monodrama tells the story of a Pole travelling to Scotland to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Once he reaches his destination, he is confronted with a series of traumatic events.
According to Remi Rachuba himself, who attended acting courses in Warsaw, London, New York, and Moscow, the play does not only focus on emigration.
He describes it as “a very motivating and inspiring story with a positive message that also touches upon the issues of restorative justice” and “a puzzle of my fate, the pieces of which the viewer will have to put together into a single whole.”
The Intruder/Intruz play has been supported by Arts Council England and Creative Scotland. It was shortlisted for the Adrian Pagan Playwriting Award at London’s King’s Head Theatre in 2013 and got to the final shortlist in the BBC Writersroom Drama in 2017.
The play’s premiere will take place on the 4th of August at the Edinburgh Festival. It will also run at Summerhall from the 3rd until the 14th of August.
