There was never any doubt about the fact that Iga Świątek would take on Venus Williams in the classification of the longest winning streak of the century.
The young Pole had no mercy on Jana Fett this Tuesday on Wimbledon’s centre court. She cruised confidently to the second round at the England Club in two straight sets (6:0 ; 6:3). Iga gives the impression of being virtually invincible since the beginning of the season.
Although she recently admitted not to consider herself as the favourite for the title in London, “1GA” is simply producing a level of tennis that is out of this world, which makes her unstoppable.
The world number 1 became the 5th female player in history to win at least 36 consecutive games. Such an achievement has only been completed by tennis greatest legends such as Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Steffi Graf, and Margaret Court.
Iga is three wins away from equalling the 10th longest winning streak in the history of the WTA tour.

Her next opponent is the Dutch player Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove. In early June, Pattinama Kerkhove reached her highest WTA ranking when she climbed to 135th place.
The match is scheduled for Thursday.
