Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles III will attend the 80th anniversary of the Red Army’s entry into the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau on 27 January.
“The King will attend a commemoration service at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial in Poland, marking 80 years since the liberation of the former German Nazi concentration camp on 27th January 1945. Prior to the commemorations, His Majesty will meet members of the local community in Krakow,” Buckingham Palace said in a press statement.
News agencies quoting the document said that it would be the first-ever visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau by a British monarch.
The King will also meet the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Andrzej Duda.
King Charles III has visited Poland four times as the Prince of Wales: in 1993, 2002, 2008, and 2010.
