Lecture: Count Paul Strzelecki and the Great Irish Famine

A lecture by Professor Peter Gray, QUB* on the contribution of Paul (Paweł) Strzelecki, a Polish emigre who volunteered to act as a charitable relief worker in Ireland during the Great Famine of 1845-50. This talk explains how he came to be there, and how his decision to focus charity on children kept thousands alive at a time when state failure and landlord clearances were allowing death to ravage the country.
