Poland has confirmed plans to deliver another batch of Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, underlining Warsaw’s determination to remain one of Kyiv’s most steadfast military backers as the war enters another critical phase. In an interview for TVP World, Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski said the transfer, expected to involve up to nine aircraft, is now the subject of detailed technical talks with Ukrainian defence officials.
The move builds on Poland’s landmark decision in 2023 to become the first NATO member to supply Ukraine with combat aircraft, a step once portrayed by Moscow as a dangerous escalation.
Two years on, such transfers have become emblematic of how far Western military support has evolved, even as Poland continues to modernise its own air force with US- and European-made systems.
Zalewski also used the announcement to reaffirm Poland’s strategic alignment with Washington, dismissing speculation about alternative security arrangements.
Warsaw is sending a clear message: NATO, anchored by the United States, remains the cornerstone of regional security, and Poland intends to keep acting to stop the Russian aggression.
