The Polish Foreign Ministry condemned the Russian missile attack on civilians in Lviv, while expressing deep sympathy and solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The diplomatic ministry assured of Poland’s continued support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. After the attack the new Foreign Minister of Ukraine held his first outside phone call with his Polish counterpart.
Russian perpetrated a missile attack on Lviv on Tuesday night. The alarm before the attack came from the head of the regional military authorities, Maxim Kozytsky, in a message on Telegram. Earlier, Kozytsky spoke of a “black day” for the Lviv region.
A total of seven buildings located in the historic part of the city and the UNESCO heritage zone were reported damaged.
Kozytsky relayed that seven people, including three children, were killed as a result of the Russian attack on Lviv.
According to the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy, one of the residential houses near the main train station has gone up in flames, and there are broken windows in many buildings. Due to the attack, students at two educational institutions will not be able to attend school.
According to the Ukrainian air force, the Lviv region was attacked by two groups of cruise missiles. A MiG-31K also took off from Savasleyka airfield in Russia’s Nizhnovgorod region.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared on Wednesday that Poland is ready to help rebuild historic buildings in Lviv damaged by the Russian attack on the city.
The Russian attack on Lviv took place on Tuesday night. The attack was addressed on Platform X by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
“Lviv needs help! The target of the Russian attack was the city center. Many historic tenements were damaged. Poland is ready to help in their reconstruction,” – wrote the head of government.
The support was also declared by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in a phonecall with his Ukrainian counterpart.
“In the coming days, we will develop a plan of support for Lviv as an ad hoc response to recent events, the head of the Council for Cooperation with Ukraine,” Pawel Kowal, told Polish Press Agency. As he pointed out, Poland has specialists who can provide support in various fields for the city.
