Poland welcomed over 5 million Ukrainian refugees

On Monday, the Polish Border Guard (SG) published a tweet informing that since the 24th of February, over 5 million people have crossed into Poland from Ukraine.

Ten of thousands of people continue to enter Poland on a weekly basis. Last Sunday only, around 27,500 people crossed from Poland into Ukraine, SG added.

Interestingly, the agency reported that almost 3.1 million people had left Poland for Ukraine since late February.

In March, Poland enacted several measures to support Ukrainians fleeing the large-scale invasion launched by Russia on the 24th of February. Ukrainian refugees have been granted rights and ensured access to healthcare, education, and various social benefits.

According to a survey by Polskie Radio, 9 in 10 Poles favour accepting refugees from war-torn Ukraine.

It is worth reminding that the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing for nearly a decade, following Russia’s annexation of Crimea and its numerous military provocations in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
