“The situation brings me to the conclusion that we are the generation that will stand up with arms in hand to defend our country,” said the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, General Wiesław Kukuła. During the inauguration of the new year at the Land Forces Academy in Wrocław, the general spoke about the need to reinstate conscription in Poland.
The Chief of General Staff of the Polish Army, General Wiesław Kukuła, delivered the inaugurating lecture for the new academic year. He spoke, among other things, about what qualities a contemporary commander should have, and in what direction the Polish army training system should develop. He also said that the transformation of the armed forces must be aimed at winning the future war.
General Kukuła pointed to the demographic crisis as one of the greatest challenges for the Polish Armed Forces.
“We are unable to continue the recruitment at the present level. The enemy’s potential is so overwhelming that we need to build a much bigger army, which means we must also implement the universal service model [conscription]. We will move to a model in which the professional soldiers, reserve soldiers and Territorial Defence soldiers will operate as one conglomerate,” said the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army.
General pointed to training programmes and talent acquisition models in the US Army.
“What is it with us? Are we the sacred cows, that we cannot be like these leading armies of the world building their resources and capabilities? Many processes will be started, you boys must conclude them. That is why I am here. With everything you learn here, you will complete these processes,” the General said.
