Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński is scheduled to perform at the esteemed BBC Proms, the world’s largest classical music festival, opening on 19 July.
Orliński’s performance will take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 23 July, where he will be accompanied by the instrumentalists of Il Pomo d’Oro. The program of the concert features music by composers such as Marini, Monteverdi, Cavalli, Caccini, Frescobaldi, and more. Notably, it includes “Tamburetta” by Polish composer Adam Jarzębski. Dubbed a “multi-skilled, golden-voiced countertenor” by the BBC, Orliński has become one of the leading Baroque singers of his generation, garnering widespread acclaim for his dazzling vocals. At 33, he is already among the world’s most sought-after singers. In 2022, Orliński took on the leading role of Orfeo in Christoph Willibald Gluck’s famous opera “Orfeo ed Euridice.”
The roles of Orfeo’s wife Euridice and the god Amore are performed by two rising stars of the opera and concert stage, sopranos Elsa Dreisig and Fatma Said. In the recording, the singers are accompanied by Il Giardino d’Amore, an ensemble founded and directed by Polish violinist Stefan Plewniak, who has built an impressive international career as a conductor and music producer.
Orliński has released several successful albums, including which showcase his versatility and mastery of both sacred and secular Baroque music. He has won numerous awards and accolades, including the prestigious Gramophone Classical Music Award and the Opus Klassik Award.
This month, Orliński stars as Lucida in Vivaldi’s “L’Olimpiade” at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. He will also perform at the Edinburgh International Festival on 3 August.
