For decades, Germany has been conducting an information campaign that manipulates the assessment and memory of World War II. This campaign is being systematically implemented. Its goal is to erase from public discourse messages about German crimes and the responsibility of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) for the genocide of Poles, Jews, and persons of other nationalities, as well as responsibility for the long-term destruction of Poland. In this way, Berlin seeks to wash away from the current German state the responsibility for the crimes and destruction perpetrated by the German Third Reich.
The first stage of manipulation was shifting the burden of guilt in public debate onto „Nazis,” who are increasingly presented as those responsible for the crimes—they have replaced Germans in descriptions of the times of WWII. Currently, messages are being identified suggesting that someone other than the Germans is the perpetrator and co-perpetrator of the crimes. In this context, one already hears about Poland and Poles with increasing frequency. The consequence of the activities conducted by German entities is the transfer of part of the guilt from the Germans and the German state onto Poles—for now, in public discourse. On the other hand, we more and more often hear and see statements in the German public space that the scale of crimes was not as large as the data indicates, and that the real victims of World War II were also… Germans. One currently encounters statements that Germans were „victims of the Nazis,” „victims of the war,” and we read about expellees and those deprived of their property. This trend will deepen, as there is no visible will to neutralize these threats or take countering actions.
The indicated activity of the German side, encompassing educational, media, administrative, political, diplomatic, cultural, and scientific actions, is a consistent operation conducted in the interest of the FRG. It was developed and implemented several decades ago with the participation of, among others, the German intelligence services. It is conducted to this day and poses a real threat to Poland, our image, the interests of the Republic of Poland, and even our security. It leads to the construction of an image of the Republic of Poland as a country burdened with crimes from the time of World War II, and even co-responsible for the Holocaust. Such information impact on Poland will realistically burden the Republic of Poland, affect the effectiveness of our memory policy and historical policy, and burden our security by building the image of a state responsible for genocidal practices from the time of World War II.
As Poles, we cannot allow history to be rewritten under the dictation of the perpetrators of World War II! This method of influence may result in the future in the formulation of accusations, attacks, and even claims against Poland in connection with lies regarding World War II. Such will be the consequences of German manipulations and Polish inaction.
THE THREAT IS SERIOUS!
The actions of the German side bear the characteristics of a coordinated information campaign, conducted on the basis of enormous state budgeting, assuming a systemic impact, whose goal—even if indirect—is to exert influence on the perception of history and the current image of the Republic of Poland. The activity of German entities looks like an influence campaign conducted on the basis of a detailed plan and is distributed among many different entities and methods of impact. The NATIONAL SECURITY INSTITUTE FOUNDATION is starting a fundraiser for a project that will show in what way and by what methods the German campaign aimed at the good name of Poles and the interests of Poland is being realized. Using the methodology of researching and identifying hostile information influence campaigns, we want to reveal and describe how Germany carries out actions harmful to Poland. We also want to plan and launch a German-language campaign to take up the fight against German lies and manipulations.
WHAT SPECIFICALLY DO WE INTEND TO DO?
- TO COMMENCE MONITORING of German actions that implement the historical revisionism project in relation to World War II.
- TO PREPARE THE PUBLICATION OF A REPORT on Germany’s actions in the field of historical revisionism and methods of manipulating the history of World War II.
- TO BEGIN IDENTIFYING German actions and the entities implementing the described German project.
- TO INDICATE how POLAND CAN AND SHOULD DEFEND ITSELF!
- TO PREPARE AND COMMENCE an information influence campaign neutralizing the threats from Germany—we plan to launch in the period preceding September 1, 2026!
For Poland, the stakes of the German actions are high. This is about Poland’s image, the security of our Homeland, but above all, it is about the truth and RESPONSIBILITY toward our ancestors who died at the hands of German oppressors. In the name of respect for their dedication and sacrifice, WE WANT TO FIGHT FOR THE TRUTH regarding GERMAN CRIMES.
We do not want our children to have to apologize for crimes from the time of World War II. We do not want Poles to be mentioned as co-perpetrators of genocidal German practices. We do not want Poland to be forced to pay damages or restitution.
