Times: UK officials consult Ukraine on how to get along with the US

The UK is advising Ukraine on how to communicate with the US, the Times reported. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s security adviser, Johnathan Powell, visited Ukraine on Saturday and Sunday, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other state officials.

According to the Times, Downing Street believes Washington can be persuaded to start sharing intelligence with Ukraine again.

US President Donald Trump’s administration halted intelligence support on 6 March, which primarily included satellite imagery that allowed targeting of objects of strategic importance to the Russians.

Institutions such as the US think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that the Russian advances in the Kursk region can be directly linked to the Ukrainians’ lack of access to accurate satellite imagery previously provided by the US.

Leading European powers, such as France and the UK, are now trying to reinvent their strategy to support Kyiv.

London’s diplomatic efforts are aimed at preparing Ukrainians for their meeting with a US delegation in Saudi Arabia. Kyiv will be represented by the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, foreign minister Andriy Sybiha, defence minister Rustem Umierov and deputy head of the presidential chancellery Pavlo Palisa.

During these talks, the Ukrainian side is expected to address US President Donald Trump’s statement that Ukraine could lose the war with Russia even if support from the US was renewed.

After a recent phone call between Donald Trump and Keir Starmer, the British head of government expressed hope that the meeting between the Ukrainian and US representatives, which will take place in the Saudi city of Jeddah, will produce a positive outcome, including Washington’s resumption of intelligence sharing and military assistance to Kyiv.
