In a commentary article, the newspaper and internet news page Times of Israel called the Polish President-elect “Holocaust revisionist Karol Nawrocki”. The US ambassador-candidate to Poland, Tom Rose, a former publisher and CEO of Jerusalem Post, stood in defence of Nawrocki, calling the article an example of anti-Polish sentiment.
The article mostly described the post-electoral landscape in Poland and the future harsh cooperation between the liberal government and the conservative president.
It also featured opinions about Karol Nawrocki’s work for the Institute of National Remembrance and his opinions on the Nazi German occupation of Poland.
“Nawrocki has most recently been the head of the Institute of National Remembrance, which embraces nationalist historical narratives, which glorified Polish victimhood and resistance to the Nazis during World War Two while delegitimising research on Polish antisemitism or Poles who killed Jews,” the article said.
“What a knee jerk demonstration of flagrant anti-Polonism. Never heard the term? Well, it’s about time people start hearing it- because it’s all too real,” the ambassador-candidate Tom Rose wrote on X.
In another public comment, Donald Trump’s nominee for US ambassador to Poland, Tom Rose, hailed the country’s democratic vitality following a tightly contested election between what he described as “two great patriots.”
“CONGRATULATIONS TO POLAND – proving yet again throughout the ups and downs of a hard fought campaign between two great patriots exactly what a strong, proud and free people and nation they are!! IF POLAND WINS THE WORLD WINS” Thomas Rose added commenting on the election outcome.
Tom Rose, Donald Trump’s nominee for US ambassador to Poland, brings with him a background steeped in media, conservative commentary, and staunch support for Israel. Between 1997 and 2005, Rose served as publisher and CEO of The Jerusalem Post, during which time he spent a decade living in Israel.
Back in the United States, he co-hosted the Bauer & Rose Show on Sirius XM Radio alongside former Republican politician Gary Bauer.
Rose had previously voiced opinions on Polish matters. Notably, he publicly challenged NBC journalist Andrea Mitchell’s inaccurate claim that the Polish Underground State had suppressed the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Rose corrected the record, emphasising that Poland’s wartime authorities had resisted Hitler’s regime.
His past remarks and media presence signal that, if confirmed, Rose is likely to bring a forthright and historically engaged voice to the ambassadorial role.
