Poland launched the construction of its border wall with Belarus

The project of building this wall has been launched due to the migration crisis orchestrated by the Minsk authorities on the Polish-Belarusian.

Polish companies have been at work since Tuesday on the site where the wall is to be erected. As the border guard’s Twitter account points out, „This is the biggest construction investment in the history of the [Polish] border guards.

The spokeswoman for Polish border guards, Anna Michalska, assured that the “environmental impact” of the investment will be “as low as possible”.

The felling of trees will be limited to the minimum required. The wall itself will be built along the border road,” she announced.

While waiting for this wall to more effectively prevent migrants from entering Poland, Polish border guards arrested 17 additional people (eleven Iranians, two Syrians, three Ghanaians, and a Lebanese) who had crossed the border illegally at two places after having, in both cases, cut through the barbed wire fence.

The flow of illegal migration is expected to intensify in the following months, as Stanisław Żaryn, the spokesman for the Coordinating Minister of Special Services recently said in an interview given to wPolityce.

When the weather improves, the Belarusian side will try to intensify the migration pressure again. […] Signs of action are already visible: an increase in the activity of Internet groups used to manage the passage from Belarus to the West […],” he warned.
