UK citizens including Poles volunteer to international legion to fight in Ukraine

In the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the West is facing a dilemma. On the one hand, there is an urge to support Ukraine, even military. On the other hand, getting involved in an open conflict with Russia by NATO states could lead to horrible consequences.

In this context, the establishment of an international legion for foreign volunteers appears to be a sort of “in-between” solution.

As The Telegraph reports, the Brits who are preparing to join the new foreign legion of the Ukrainian army have received support from Interior Minister Liz Truss.

People can make their own decisions. The people of Ukraine are fighting for freedom and democracy, not only for Ukraine, but for the whole of Europe”, the Interior Minister explained.

The volunteers joining the Ukrainian forces are mainly young men. When asked about their motivation to go clash with the Russian troops, most of them draw attention to the fact that such a fight is necessary and that they believe their participation can be of good use in the midst of the Russian invasion.

Tom Konarzewski, one of the volunteers of Polish origin, told Sky News that he wanted to “make a difference in Ukraine„. He added that he and the other volunteers „would like to get there as soon as possible„.
