The UK government announced its willingness to loosen post-Brexit immigration rules to meet British employers’ demand for workers and stimulate economic growth in the country.
The UK has been struggling with a labour shortage for a long time. Last month, two million job vacancies were reported in the country, and the social services sector tried to fill 105,000 jobs. About 40,000 nurses and 100,000 truck drivers are missing, and the agricultural industry has called for an additional 30,000 visas for seasonal workers.
In this context, Britain’s PM Liz Truss decided to address this issue by increasing the number of workers allowed to enter the UK, according to government sources cited by the Guardian.

Truss would reportedly „be happy to hire broadband engineers” who would accelerate the development of telecommunications infrastructure on the island. By doing so, the Tory leader hopes to make full-fibre broadband available to 85% of British homes by 2025.
The restrictions on seasonal agricultural workers are also to be abolished, and the list of the so-called scarcity occupations is to be significantly updated. These modifications aim at allowing sectors of the British economy to recruit more workers from abroad.
According to The Sunday Times, the PM’s proposal faces resistance from cabinet Brexiters, including the home secretary, Suella Braverman, and the trade secretary, Kemi Badenoch.
