Polish military pilot dies in plane crash during training flight

An M-346 Bielik crashed at the airport in Gdynia Babie Doły during a training flight. The pilot of the machine – Major Pilot Robert Jel – died on the site of the accident.

The accident occurred around 1 pm at a military airport in Gdynia Babie Doły. On board, the Bielik M-346 Master training aircraft was Major Pilot Robert „Killer” Jel, who was training for a demonstration flight scheduled for Saturday at the Gdynia airport. The occasion was the 30th anniversary of the Gdynia Naval Aviation Brigade.

The pilot, a major who was acting as deputy commander of the aviation squadron, died at the site of the accident. He did not attempt to eject himself out,” said the Polish Air Force Inspector Major General Ireneusz Nowak at a press conference.

The scene of the accident was captured by people standing at the site of the airport.

The 30th anniversary celebrations of the Gdynia Naval Aviation Brigade, have been cancelled due to the accident.
