Alex Dancyg, Polish historian and an advocate of Polish-Jewish dialogue died in Gaza according to Israel Defence Force, Polish Press Agency reports.
The Israeli army confirmed the death of two hostages held captive by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Alex Dancyg and Yagew Bukhstaw, who were most likely held together near the town of Khan Yunis and were killed there several months ago.
Both deaths were confirmed with new intelligence obtained by the Israeli army.
Warsaw-born Alex Dancyg was a Polish and Israeli citizen. He was a historian involved in Polish-Jewish dialogue for decades, organising trips of Poles and Israelis to both countries. He worked at the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem.
He lived in the Nir Oz kibbutz near the Gaza border and from there was kidnapped by Hamas on 7 October 2023 during the terrorist attack. He would celebrate his 76 birthday on 21 July 2024, just a day before the report of his death.
