“We have seen these comments, and of course, you have to take these kinds of threats seriously – and we do, no matter how reckless and irresponsible they are, of course we take it seriously,” John Kirby, the head of the US National Security Council said. 

The head of the US National Security Council referred to the words of Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who said last week that the newly opened missile shield base in Redzikowo “has been put on the list of priority targets for potential destruction,” and that its opening adds to the nuclear threat.

“President Biden is rock-solid on this issue. We will do everything in our power to ensure the security of our troops on the European continent. And just as importantly, we take our Article V obligations to our NATO allies extremely seriously. This is indisputable, and this will not change,” Kirby added. 

During the press briefing, John Kirby also officially confirmed for the first time that the US allowed Ukraine to use the ATACMS missiles it supplied and that Ukraine uses them for its urgent national defence needs.
