Britain’s King Charles III will visit Poland in January according to media reports. The monarch is to take part in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau liberation.
The Daily Mail reported that King Charles III will visit Poland in January 2025. The newspaper said it will be the first visit of a British king to Poland since entering the throne in 2022. It will also be the first visit by a UK monarch to the site of the former Auschwitz camp.
The last foreign trip of King Charles’s mother, Queen Elizabeth took place in 2005 when she visited the former German death camp Bergen-Belsen in Lower Saxony.
The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum authorities said on their website that the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the camp will take place on 27 January and that they hope dozens of Holocaust survivors and the leaders of some 20 countries will attend.
King Charles III has so far visited Poland four times when he was still the Prince of Wales: in 1993, 2002, 2008 and 2010.
