Join Polish pianist Aleksandra Mysłek and German bass-baritone Florian Störtz on a musical journey as they celebrate the release of their new album, Harbingers of Exile. This unique programme sets Schumann’s Kerner Lieder alongside the beautifully crafted songs of Robert Kahn, a German-Jewish composer whose eloquent late-romantic works have been rediscovered and brought back to life.
Kahn’s celebrated career was tragically cut short by the rise of fascism, causing his music to vanish from public reception. Forced into exile, he spent the last years of his life in Biddenden, Kent, and his once-popular works were unjustly neglected. This concert is an opportunity to hear his magnificent music performed with the passion and sensitivity it deserves.
Praised by Sir John Tomlinson as “… two passionate, sensitive artists completely united and immersed in song. Most satisfying,” Florian Störtz and Aleksandra Myslek bring a profound connection to this music. Don’t miss this chance to experience a truly special concert that revives the legacy of a forgotten master that shares a story as compelling as the music itself.
Programme to include:
Schumann Kerner Lieder Op. 35
Songs by Strauss, Robert Kahn and Stephen Hough
Aleksandra Mysłek is a Polish collaborative pianist and répétiteur recognised for her growing presence in the classical music world across Europe and China. Her musical journey began with a deep admiration for Chopin, which was acknowledged early on when she received a special prize from the National Fryderyk Chopin Society at age nine. Her education at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of renowned professors such as Hamish Milne, Leon Fleisher, Fou Ts’ong and Ferenc Rados, and mentorship from Julius Drake helped shape her artistic identity.
Her performance career is distinguished by appearances at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Palau de la Música, and Carnegie Hall, and participation in elite young artist programs like the Leeds Lieder and the Britten Pears Programme. In 2025, her performance of Schönberg’s Pierrot lunaire was described as „played with great artistry and energy, with wonderful sound, always alive and clear, and the rhythmic control that was exemplary”. Aleksandra was a guest on BBC In Tune, alongside violinist Eleanor Corr and singer Joanna Harris. She also performed as a guest artist for the BBC New Generation Artists concert, accompanying Erika Baikoff, with the performance broadcast by BBC World Service on New Year’s Day 2026.
In addition to performing, Aleksandra has built a strong reputation as a répétiteur, working with opera companies such as Opera Holland Park and the Royal Opera House, also collaborating with composers on new operatic works. She holds staff pianist positions at Trinity Laban and Guildhall School and, as a City Music Foundation Artist, she recorded a debut disk for Delphian Records with baritone Florian Störtz reviving the works of émigré composer Robert Kahn. Together with Florian they took Kahn’s music and the wider German and French repertoire to Mexico. Her excellence as a collaborator has also been recognized with several accompanist awards, including the Leach Award, Edith Poulsen Prize and Brenda Webb Award.
