The 24-year-old Pole Maciej Nadzikiewicz recently became a Board Member of Wikimedia Europe. He has already been a Member of the Governance Board of Wikimedia Polska for the last two years.
Polish journalist Dr Maciej Kawecki shared his impressions on social media following an interview he made with the Warsaw-based prodigy.
“An extremely modest boy, Maciej Artur Nadzikiewicz, has just assumed the position of a member of the only five-person board of Wikimedia Europe that manages Wikipedia. This has a huge impact on reality,” – Kawecki wrote on his Facebook profile.
He emphasised that Maciej Nadzikiewicz is “a man who puts freedom of speech at the centre of his values”.

Back in January 2019, “Maciek” became famous after winning the prestigious “25 under 25” competition organised every year by Forbes magazine. The latter rewards the most innovative young people under the age of 25. The future Wikipedia administrator won in the category of Social Impact.
The young Polish talent commented on his new responsibilities on his LinkedIn page with a touch of humour: “I do not wish anyone to manage Wikipedia, Wikimedia organisations support over 250,000 volunteers who spend their free time every month to create the Sum of Human Knowledge! […] Wikimedia Europe will mainly focus on public advocacy in front of the European Commission and European Parliament to ensure free access to knowledge and culture for all!” – he wrote.
Wikipedia is the sixth most visited website in the world and is available in over 250 languages.
