Almost 7,5 million passengers travelled via the Warsaw Chopin airport in 2021

In 2021, the Warsaw Chopin Airport handled almost 7.5 million passengers, which represents an increase of 36 per cent compared to 2020. 

As reported in an official press release, the Chopin Airport served exactly 7,473,734 passengers in 2021. 

In 2021, Chopin Airport managed to cross the border of one million passengers three times in one month, and at the end of the year the balance was over 7 million passengers, which is an increase of 36% compared to 2020 and 2% higher than forecasted” –  the airport wrote.

According to the airport’s information, almost 64 per cent of passengers travelled by traditional carriers, 16 per cent via low-cost lines, and around 20 per cent via charter in 2021. 

The most popular regular carrier remains […] LOT Polish Airlines, which has almost 60% share in passenger transport. Wizz Air is second with less than 20% share, and Lufthansa is the third,” – the airport announced. 

The number of regular routes in 2021 was 140 and was higher than in the peak of 2019 when 131 regular routes were implemented. In 2021, 109 routes that existed in 2019 were returned to the schedule, and 27 new ones appeared – mainly holiday ones, in summer.

The airport data shows that Paris, London, Frankfurt, Kyiv and Amsterdam are among the top five most frequently chosen destinations on regular routes. 

When it comes to charters – throughout 2021, shorter southern routes were most often picked, such as Antalya, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Rhodes, and Heraklion.

Chopin Airport in Warsaw is the largest airport in Poland. It is managed by the Porty Lotnicze State Enterprise.
