Part of NATO’s missile defence shield, the Redzikowo base in northern Poland is ready to begin its mission, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced during the summit in Washington DC.
“This is an important step for transatlantic security and NATO’s ability to defend against the growing threat of ballistic missiles,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.
“Ballistic missiles have been widely used in conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. As a defensive Alliance, we cannot ignore that threat. Missile defence is an essential element for NATO’s core task of collective defence”, Mr Stoltenberg added.
The NATO chief also said that the leaders agreed to adjust NATO’s command structure and expand the capabilities of the integrated air and missile defence system.
