Defence Minister: Six offers submitted for Poland’s new submarine fleet

Poland has received six bids for the purchase of new submarines, with a final decision on a partner nation now resting with the Council of Ministers, Defence Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed.

The announcement came at the opening of a Warsaw conference titled “The Capabilities of the Polish Navy and the Protection of Critical Infrastructure in the Baltic: Security in the Era of Conventional and Hybrid Threats.” Among the speakers were Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Defence Minister Stanisław Wziątek.

In his remarks, the Defence Minister stressed the importance of strengthening the Navy and giving greater recognition to its personnel. “For those who have preserved Poland’s underwater capabilities, the acquisition of new submarines will be a significant boost,” he said.

Kosiniak-Kamysz explained that the process will take place under an intergovernmental agreement. “There are six offers now. Initially, there were seven, but South Korea has merged two of its proposals. The remaining bids come from Italy, Spain, France, a German-Norwegian consortium, Sweden, and South Korea,” he outlined.

He added that the final stage will be a Cabinet-level assessment to select the partner country.

Together with the Armaments Agency, we have drawn up a strict timetable,” the minister concluded.
