Iga Świątek is in the third round in Melbourne

World number 1 Iga Świątek shows no signs of slowing down. The Pole cruised to the third round of the Australian Open, defeating the Columbian Camila Osorio with (6-2; 6-3) in 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Throughout the first set, Świątek showed who the boss is, playing offensive tennis which led her to finish points at the net on several occasions.

The second set proved more complicated, due to Osorio’s courageous resistance. However, the Varsovian seemed to always have had the key for eventually turning things her way.

It’s worth reminding that Iga wasn’t initially sure she could participate in the Australian Open due to a recent shoulder injury. And here she is displaying the high level of tennis she got us used to for quite some time. See for yourself:

The young Pole keeps on with her relentless pace. On Monday, she started her 42nd consecutive week as world number 1 and seems in shape to make that series much longer.

Iga has now got some time to rest. Her opponent on Friday will be the winner of the clash between the Spaniard Cristina Bucșa and the Canadian Bianca Andreescu. Both players didn’t yet start their match at the moment of writing.

In the meantime, Hubert Hurkacz is facing the Italian Lorenzo Sonego for a place in the third round, as is Magda Linette, who faces the Egyptian Maya Sherif.
