King Charles III congratulated Poland’s new President on his first day in office

In a formal letter marking the inauguration of Karol Nawrocki as President of the Republic of Poland, King Charles III extended warm congratulations and reaffirmed the strength of the historic alliance between the United Kingdom and Poland. The message, shared shortly after Nawrocki assumed office, highlights both the deep-rooted ties between the two nations and the shared challenges they now face on the global stage.

My wife and I would like to extend our warmest congratulations to you on your election,” the King began, before emphasising the “deep and enduring partnership” between the UK and Poland. He drew a poignant parallel to the past, invoking Poland’s wartime heroism and solidarity with Britain during the Second World War. Citing “the valour of its pilots who defended British skies,” the contribution of General Sosabowski’s Parachute Brigade during Operation Market Garden, and “the brilliance of the Polish mathematicians who laid the groundwork for cracking Enigma,” the monarch paid tribute to Poland’s lasting legacy in the defence of Europe.

Looking to the future, King Charles acknowledged the complex geopolitical environment awaiting President Nawrocki. “The world will continue to face great challenges,” he wrote, citing the urgent need to bolster global security, address climate change, strengthen energy security, and protect human rights and freedoms.

Poland will have an important part to play,” the letter asserts.

The British monarch expressed his hope that President Nawrocki’s term in office will deepen bilateral ties further. “I look forward to our countries continuing to work in close cooperation… throughout your time in office,” King Charles wrote, wishing Nawrocki “every success in guiding your nation at this crucial time.”

In a final expression of optimism, the King concluded: “It is my hope that your Presidency will see the relationship between our two countries, which is already so close, deepen further still and that together we work towards a more prosperous and secure future for our nations.”

The letter, rich in historical memory and diplomatic intent, reflects the UK’s recognition of Poland as a key European partner amid rising global instability and shifting security priorities.
