For the past week, virtually every poll gave the Foreign Secretary a clear leading position in the race, which has been widening with every passing day.
According to a YouGov survey conducted on the 21st of July, 31% of the Tories intend to vote for Rishi Sunak, while 49% intend to vote for Liz Truss. The remaining 15 % said they don’t know how they will vote, and 6 % announced that they would abstain.

As of the 1st of August, Rishi Sunak’s chance of replacing Boris Johnson has shrunk to 10 %, while his rival enjoys a comfortable lead of nearly 90% in Smarkets estimates.

The Tory leadership race was triggered after Johnson was forced to step down on the 7th of July following a series of resignations of government officials. Boris Johnson is to remain in office until the election of a new Tory leader on the 5th of September.
