President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk held a one-hour meeting on Thursday, described by the head of the presidential office, Paweł Szefernaker, as “substantive” and focused on key issues for Poland.
Speaking at a press conference afterwards, Minister Paweł Szefernaker said the discussion centred on national security and international affairs. According to him, the meeting had been requested by the Prime Minister following a teleconference of European leaders with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which Nawrocki represented Poland.
“The President had already indicated that if there was a willingness to discuss the most important matters for the country, such a meeting would take place,” Szefernaker explained.
Asked about the tone of the talks, he described it as “normal – as it should be in a meeting between the President and the Prime Minister. This was not a social call, but a conversation between the two most senior figures in the state about the issues that matter most to Poles,” he emphasised.
Szefernaker also announced that the Cabinet Council, pledged by Nawrocki in his recent address, will convene on 27 August. Its agenda will include the state of public finances, constitutional matters and long-term development issues. The President is also expected to present initiatives he plans to submit to the Sejm.
An official invitation to the meeting will be issued next week.
