The UK’s Foreign Minister David Lammy met Polish FM Radosław Sikorski after his trip to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky. “We discussed our shared priorities and the ambitious plans we have for the UK-Poland partnership. Our relationship is essential for our shared security and for our continued support of Ukraine,” the British politician wrote in an X post after the meeting.
“In a post on X the following day, Sikorski said it had been “good to host” Lammy in the Polish capital, thanking him for talks on what he described as the true foundations of Europe’s security,” Polish Radio informed after the meeting.
“Alliances are not given once and for all,” Sikorski wrote. “They must be continuously reinforced and supported in the pursuit of shared interests.”
Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said talks held in Warsaw on 16 January centred on strategic cooperation between Poland and the United Kingdom, including a bilateral treaty on security and defence currently under negotiation.
The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on prospects for ending the war in Ukraine, the challenge of irregular migration in Europe, and a range of current bilateral issues.
According to the ministry, relations between Warsaw and London rest on a long-standing strategic partnership underpinned by close political cooperation and strong links in security, defence, the economy and culture.
The two countries hold regular high-level consultations, both bilaterally and within wider international frameworks. Russia’s continuing aggression against Ukraine featured prominently in the talks, alongside discussions on potential pathways to peace.
Lammy’s visit to Poland followed talks with President Zelensky on the previous day.
Poland and the UK reaffirmed their unequivocal support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, agreeing that any settlement to the conflict must be consistent with international law.
Both countries continue to back Ukraine politically, militarily and diplomatically, coordinating their efforts through Nato and other formats, including what Poland describes as a “coalition of the willing”.
They also reiterated their shared position on Russia, supporting the continuation of sanctions and increased international pressure until the aggression ceases. The visit by David Lammy followed an earlier meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and came shortly before Radosław Sikorski was due to leave for an official visit to India on Saturday, 17 January 2026.
