In a video shared on X by Samuel Pereira, French President Emmanuel Macron admitted that his and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s approach to dialogue with Russia was a grave mistake. He also acknowledged that Poland was right about Putin’s intentions.
In his video, Macron says that many European countries criticised him and Angela Merkel for continuing dialogue with Russian President Putin.
“Poland, and the Baltic States, warned us that he will betray you. And he did. Those countries knew that because in recent times they all were attacked by Russia,” the French president said.
In his statement, Macron described his willingness to talk with Russia and try to engage in constructive dialogue at least since 2017. He was supported in his idea by Germany.
In the video, President Macron admitted that Russia betrayed his trust.
