The National Grid warned that the UK must be prepared for a pessimistic scenario, in which would mean that power cuts could last even up to three hours.
In order to prevent such a situation from occurring, households are being urged to “save money and back Britain” by using more energy during off-peak times. In other words, the National Grid asks people to use their washing machine or dishwasher overnight and charge an EV at off-peak times.
The National Grid emphasised its “cautious confidence” that there would be enough electricity to meet the needs of consumers and businesses during the whole winter. However, the dynamic and unpredictable situation Europe is confronted with led the network operator to lay out a series of potential scenarios.

The Guardian reports that the probability of power cuts will depend highly on the weather. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts warned about the fact that Europe could suffer a colder winter with less rain and wind than average, which isn’t good news…
