Following the UK’s departure from the EU, a new visa system is about to be introduced in 2023. Brits will be required to possess a visa issued through the European Travel Information and Authorisation System if they plan to travel for less than 90 days during a 180-day period.
The new regulation is to apply to all those travelling to any EU country by car, plane, and boat and to anyone transiting through the continent. The visa costs €7 (£5), and any traveller between 18 and 70 years old will have to possess one.
Applicants will be asked for information regarding their identity, passport, education, job, recent travel, and criminal record among other things. The application will have to be completed at least 96 hours before departure.
The new digital system has been designed to check the traveller’s name, biometric data, and the date and place of entry and exit. It is to last three years and expires if you happen to get a new passport.
Other important updates when it comes to travelling abroad are to be noted. Rules concerning the entry to the US for Brits also changed.
As of the 2nd of June, the cost of an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) will increase from $14 (£11) to $21 (£17). ESTAs are the visas most used by Brits while crossing the Atlantic.
