Jacek Kurski is no longer the head of Poland’s public broadcaster TVP

Jacek Kurski, the head of Poland’s public broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP),  was dismissed from his position earlier this week.

The reasons for Kurski’s departure remain unclear, but rumours about his potential comeback to the government spread like wildfire across Polish media.

A state body overseeing Polish public media unanimously voted to dismiss Kurski from his position. It appointed the 41-year-old Mateusz Matyszkowicz to replace him.

I confirm that as a result of the decision of my political community, in consultation with me, I have ceased to be the Head of TVP. I know that there are more challenges ahead of me. The TV I gave the last seven years of my life to is today at its peak, wonderful as ever. I sincerely thank the viewers and people of TVP,” – Kurski tweeted on Tuesday.

As Rzeczpospolita reported on Tuesday, “politicians are surprised by the information about the dismissal of the head of TVP, but they do not rule out that events may have accelerated and Kurski may enter the government”.

The spokesman of the ruling Law and Justice party Radosław Fogiel nourished the rumours with a tweet mentioning that there were “new tasks” awaiting the former deputy culture minister.
