Robert Lewandowski is already the top scorer in Spain and in the Champions League

It didn’t take long for Robert Lewandowski to show his efficiency in the Spanish league. The Polish superstar scored an acrobatic goal against Sevilla last Saturday and took the lead in the race for the Pichichi.

Those who doubted Lewandowski’s ability to continue scoring goals at virtually every match he is playing following his recent transfer from Bayern Munich to FC Barcelona have had their answer by now. At 34, “Lewy” keeps on doing what he does best.

The Varsovian striker could not be decisive in only his first game in La Liga. Did he succumb to the high pressure and expectations from the Catalonian fans? Whatever the answer to this question, it is now irrelevant and long forgotten, given that he has since scored five goals in his last three games.

On Wednesday night, “Lewangoalski” made the show during Barcelona’s comfortable victory against Plzeň (5-1) by scoring a hat-trick in some style. The third goal he scored was a true rocket shot from outside the box.

The Polish star leads the classification of the Spanish league’s top scorers, along with Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo. Barcelona fans know well that he could have already scored a few goals more if his teammates would pass him the ball more often, which was especially apparent during the recent match against Sevilla. Regarding the Champions League, “Lewy” is the only player with three goals after only one match.

Football fans worldwide already marked 16 October as the day of the long-awaited “El Clasico”, when the two Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona will clash for the first time of the season.

On that day, Robert Lewandowski will face his world-class French rival Karim Benzema, the favourite for the upcoming Ballon d’Or. The latter currently falls behind the Pole with 3 goals in La Liga so far and 86 goals overall in the Champions League, against 89 for the Pole.

The Pole aims to become the third player (after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi) to pass the symbolic threshold of 100 goals in the Champions League.
