Wojciech Nowicki clinched the gold medal in the hammer throw, while Ewa Swoboda secured silver in the 100-metre race on the third day of the European Athletics Championships in Rome.
Nowicki began the competition with a throw of 78.61m. In the second round, the Tokyo Olympic champion improved to 80.14m. With his final throw, he sent the hammer to 80.95m, sealing his victory.
The Pole previously claimed the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics, silver medals at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships, and bronze medals at the 2016 Summer Olympics, as well as the 2015, 2017, and 2019 World Championships.
In the 100-metre race, Polish sprinter Ewa Swoboda finished second, trailing only British athlete Dina Asher-Smith and narrowly edging out Italian runner Zaynab Dosso by four thousandths of a second.
Asher-Smith clinched the victory with a time of 10.99 seconds, mirroring her triumph at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin. Both Swoboda and Dosso recorded times of 11.03 seconds.
Before the start of the competition, Swoboda was already a three-time medallist in the 60 metres at the European Indoor Championships, having won gold in 2019 and silver in both 2017 and 2023.
