Polish nineteen-year-old Zoja Skubis has set a world record to be the youngest woman to climb Manaslu – the 8th highest mountain in the world.
“Youngest Polish woman at 8k! We did it! Yesterday at 05:09 I stood on top of Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world. A whole year of preparation behind me, three weeks of sitting in base camp and a four-day summit attack. Many, many, many thanks to all the people who contributed to this success,” Zoja wrote on her Instagram.
On her social media, Zoja shared her life story, explaining that she left an ordinary school for a remote class school, the so-called “Data Cloud School”. Thanks to that decision she was able to prepare for the demanding trip.
Manaslu has an altitude of 8163 m. It is situated in the northern part of Nepal. The trip to the top of the mountain requires high climbing skills and is considered very dangerous. Two other Poles, Maciej Berbeka and Ryszard Gajewski, climbed it in January 1984.
Zoja is now preparing for a marathon run in Antarctica. After that, she wants to prepare and climb Mount Everest.
