Kieran Culkin wins an Oscar for a Supporting Role in „A Real Pain”, a film about Poland

Kieran Culkin won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In Jesse Eisebnerg’s movie Real Pain, about cousins who decide to visit Poland for the first time, you can watch his performance and appreciate the beautiful Polish landscapes.

For the 42-year-old Culkin, it was the first Oscar nomination of his career. The “Real Pain” may still receive another Oscar for Jesse Eisenberg’s original screenplay.

The actor gained recognition for his role as Roman Roy in the HBO series “Succession”. He made his film debut at the age of seven in Home Alone, in which his older brother, Macaulay, played the title character.

Real Pain” tells the story of two cousins’ trip from New York to Poland in the footsteps of their recently deceased grandmother. Eisenberg played the closed-off, nervous David. On the other hand, Culkin plays Benje, who is not afraid to show his feelings. Their trip together turns out to be a confrontation not only with the trauma of loss but also with the difficulties of their long-standing relationship.

One of the reasons Eisenberg took on this project is that he has Polish roots. The actor’s great-grandparents came from our country. He described his film as “a love letter to Poland”.

The movie director, Jesse Eisenberg, will receive Polish citizenship from the hands of Polish President Andrzej Duda during his ongoing visit to the US.

The 97th Academy Awards gala will be held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.  American comedian and screenwriter Conan O’Brie will host the ceremony.
