Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki published a statement on his Facebook profile concerning the recent celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The head of the Polish government underlined that back in 1989, the decommunisation of the German Democratic Republic was rather predictable and it was the Polish „Solidarity” movement who put in the groundwork.
Communism wouldn’t have fallen in Europe if not for what transpired in Poland in 1980. It is the Solidarity movement that started weakening the wall, also the Berlin Wall, which fell. Unfortunately, when in Poland political elites were congratulating themselves on the Thick Line policy and on “a revolution without a revolution”, the decommunisation process took place in Germany. In the old East Germany, around 70% of Communist era prosecutors and judges were relieved of their duties. In our country, almost everyone was left untouched. (…)
