Boris Johnson celebrates the birth of his seventh child

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie have announced the birth of a „healthy baby girl.” The baby girl was born on Thursday morning at a London hospital. “It is fantastic having a baby in 10 Downing Street, but it is also a lot of work (…) I change a lot of nappies,” the Prime Minister assured NBC.

Last July, the Johnsons had announced that they were expecting a second child in December. Back then, Carrie Johnson wrote that she had suffered a miscarriage at the beginning of the year. Boris and Carrie already have a son, Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson, who was born in April 2020. Their secret marriage took place at Westminster Cathedral in London last May.

“The prime minister and Mrs Johnson are delighted to announce the birth of a healthy baby girl at a London hospital earlier today (…) Both mother and daughter are doing very well. The couple would like to thank the brilliant NHS maternity team for all their care and support,” according to one of the couple’s spokesmen.

Boris Johnson already has four adult children, with his second wife, Marina Wheeler. The couple divorced last year, after 25 years of marriage. It is also known that the British Prime Minister also has at least one other child from an extramarital relationship. In an interview given to NBC in September, he affirmed that he is the father of six children.

Opposition Labour Party leader Keir Starmer tweeted his congratulations to the Johnsons, wishing the family “health and happiness.”

The timing of this official announcement is interesting regarding the fact that it coincided with the news Johnson’s Conservative Party had been fined £17,800 by the UK’s Electoral Commission over the refurbishment of a flat at Downing Street. The Commission’s investigation was launched following reports in British media that Boris Johnson had spent $280,000 on refurbishing his flat at Downing Street.

Moreover, “BoJo” is also under pressure over multiple claims that social events were held inside 10 Downing Street in the days following last year’s Christmas when the UK was under strict epidemiological regulations prohibiting among others such activities.
