Angus Luff came up with the idea of organising adventure trips amidst the Scottish Highlands with a US school bus after Expedition Happiness on Netflix. The film is about a couple travelling across North America with an old school bus.
The young man graduated in 2019 and quit his job as a management consultant in Leicester in order to live out his dream. Luff wanted to create a sort of hostel on wheels.
Angus hosts road trips across the Highlands where he arranges several kinds of outdoor activities such as kayaking, cycling, hiking, and swimming.
In addition to being the tour guide, he does all the cleaning, cooking, and of course driving. When the night comes, he pitches a tent outside in order to give the guests privacy on the bus.
The “Bonnie Camper” – as the bus is called – has been converted into a “glamping” RV mobile home equipped with a kitchen, beds, as well as seating areas for up to six people.
It is a 1999 model vehicle that was originally used to take New York students to and from school. Angus bought it in 2019 and had it shipped over from the US. The bus needed some refurbishment in order to meet the UK regulations.
Angus then earned his HGV driving licence and tried out his new concept on friends. He then organised his first money-making trip in June 2021.
“Everyone’s always beeping and waving at us. You feel like a celebrity […] It was amazing, I had a group of four women from London come up and hired it out privately […] I love seeing people’s reaction to the bus, they get so excited […] I basically go on holiday every week, I’m very fortunate to be able to do this.” Angus admits proudly.
The five-day tour costs £600 per person and includes all the activities and food.
