Last Thursday, the 35-year-old Brit Victoria Evans rowed into Barbados onboard her rowing boat after having spent 40 days at sea. Her amazing journey started in the Canary Islands on the 11th of February.

“Taking on this epic challenge was about driving positive change, inspiring others and using the achievement as a platform to progress the narrative about women in sport,” Evans said at the finish line.
In total, the British lawyer rowed 2,559 nautical miles in a world-record time of 40 days and 19 hours. Her achievement crushed the previous record of 49 days and 7 hours by a landslide.
Interestingly, Victoria Evans was never a row-loving adventurer. ExplorersWeb reports that she had to row 12 to 14 hours a day in order to become the fastest of the 11 women who have managed to cross the Atlantic all the way from East to West.
“Completing the crossing is just the start of this work… I can use this experience to that we are capable of anything,” she proudly confessed soon after her arrival.
Victoria Evans founded Sea Change Sport, a charity promoting access to sport for women. As of the end of March, she fundraised over £24.000.
