According to Facebook’s standards, is it prohibited to state who established the Auschwitz camp? Our post informing that Germans founded the camp was removed a few minutes after publication.
One of the most famous and daring escapes from the German camp in Auschwitz took place on 20 June 1942. Every year, we write about this topic to remind our readers of this extraordinary story.
On 20 June 1942, Kazimierz Piechowski, along with three other prisoners – Eugeniusz Bendera, Stanisław Jaster, and Józef Lempart – escaped from the German KL Auschwitz, disguised in SS uniforms. The escape occurred with the knowledge of Witold Pilecki, who voluntarily infiltrated Auschwitz to organise resistance within the camp. The escapees took the „Witold Report” to pass it on to the Home Army.
We published the article „Kazimierz Piechowski and his daring escape from Auschwitz” on 20 June 2024, around 4pm.
We added a short description to the article, a so-called „teaser,” with the following content: „The Germans established the Auschwitz camp in 1940 to imprison Poles. Auschwitz II-Birkenau, the site of the genocide of Jews, was built two years later. Read about one of the most daring escapes in the history of this camp, where on 20 June 1942, prisoners escaped in… SS uniforms!”
It was a mere few minutes after our post went live when one of our admins received a message from Facebook, stating that the post was removed. The reason? It was deemed to ’go against the standards of the social media platform and mislead readers.’ This decision, seemingly arbitrary, has left us questioning the fairness of the process.
Censorship? Apparently, according to Facebook’s standards, it is not allowed to state who established the Auschwitz camp. Or perhaps there is a ban on mentioning that the Germans made it? We will appeal the decision and keep our readers posted.
