Barbara Prymakowska, also known as „the world’s fastest grandmother,” has once again demonstrated her extraordinary athletic prowess by securing the European half-marathon championship title at the age of 82.
Prymakowska, an 82-year-old Polish runner, achieved this remarkable feat in Porto Santo, Portugal, where she competed in the European Masters Non-Stadia Half Marathon Championship. Known for her astonishing speed, Prymakowska completed the half marathon in just over two hours, despite the challenging weather conditions, which included a torrential downpour.
Prymakowska embarked on her running career in her late 60s, swiftly rising to prominence in the masters’ athletics scene. Her rigorous training regimen and steadfast determination have earned her significant recognition and respect in the sport.
The recent trip to Porto Santo was memorable for the Pole, not only because of her gold medal win, but also due to the emotional and adventurous experiences she encountered. She faced several surprises, including issues with race registration and a last-minute schedule change for the 10-kilometre race. Despite her initial disappointment at missing that race, she remained determined and focused, leading to her victory in the 21-kilometre event.
In addition to her recent title, Prymakowska has a long history of competing in various long-distance races, often outperforming much younger competitors.
