Polish hotel hotel tycoon launches unusual scheme to tackle falling birth rates

Władysław Grochowski, chairman of Arche Group, one of Poland’s largest property development and hotel chains, has unveiled a novel incentive programme aimed at boosting the country’s declining birth rate. Under the scheme, employees and homebuyers will receive a bonus of 10,000 zł (£2,000) for every child born within five years of purchasing a flat. In a more unconventional twist, hotel guests who conceive during their stay will be rewarded with a free family celebration to mark the child’s arrival, such as a christening reception.

Grochowski argues that business has a responsibility to help address pressing social challenges, including Poland’s shrinking population. Beyond cash rewards, Arche Group also plans symbolic gestures: planting commemorative trees for newborns and gifting a pram and starter kit to the first baby born under the initiative.

Any couple who conceives a child during a stay at one of Arche Group’s 23 hotels will be offered a complimentary family celebration to mark the birth for example a christening reception hosted in one of our event halls or restaurants,” Grochowski announced.

The entrepreneur frames his project as not only a matter of social good but also long-term business survival. “If there are no new generations,” he notes, “there will be no-one left to buy homes or stay in hotels.”

His intervention comes at a time when Poland, like many European countries, is grappling with one of the lowest fertility rates on the continent, raising concerns about future labour shortages and the sustainability of economic growth.

As part of the programme, special parks will be created where trees will be planted and named after children conceived in the group’s properties. Parents will also receive a pram and a welcome package.

According to the terms and conditions published on the developer’s website, the child must be born within 300 days of the hotel stay. The parents are also required to provide proof that they spent the night in an Arche hotel.
