Polish researcher at Oxford to receive almost £2 million grant

The European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grants support scientists and scholars as they establish independent research teams and develop their scientific ideas. The Oxford recipients include Professor Dawid Kielak, a researcher of pure maths at Oxford’s Mathematical Institute.

2,313 applications for the grant were submitted this year. The Council has awarded its 2024 Consolidator Grants to 328 researchers across Europe, with a total funding amount of €678 million.

The Oxford stipends of the ECR grants will amount to up to €2 million, or around £1.6 million, over five years.

Professor Dawid Kielak works in geometric group theory, an area that involves algebra, geometry, and topology.

I am very humbled to have received this ERC Consolidator Grant,” the Polish scientist said.

The researcher’s interest includes “fibring”, the concept that a complex space may be understood as a simpler, lower-dimensional structure changing over time,” The Oxford Mail wrote.
