Robert Lewandowski joined FC Barcelona

After several months of rumours, it finally happened. Robert Lewandowski has officially joined FC Barcelona. The Catalan club has agreed on a deal with Bayern Munich for the signing of striker Robert Lewandowski for £42.5m (€50m).

He is reportedly set to sign a three-year deal (with an option for a fourth) after the completion of the transfer, which could tie him to Barcelona until the summer of 2026.

Robert Lewandowski left Bayern after having played there since 2014. He won virtually everything there was to win with the Bavarian team: Bundesliga, Champions League, German Cup, German Super Cup, Club World Cup, and European Super Cup.

If he had finished his career with Bayern, there is no doubt he would have beaten most major individual records in the Bundesliga (such as the 365 goals scored by the late Gerd Müller. Yet it seems that Lewy was looking for a new challenge. His contract was initially running for one more season.

Just a few weeks before turning 34, the Polish goal machine joined another giant of the game, the legendary FC Barcelona. He even told Barça TV that “Barcelona is back” in his opinion and that he came “to win trophies”.

Lewy remains one of the best and most respected strikers in the world. His remarkable work ethic allows him to be at the peak of his career while most payers in their mid-30s start to decline.

His breathtaking statistics made and overall performance and attitude. If the ceremony had not been cancelled for epidemiological reasons, he would have won the Ballon d’Or 2020. Not to mention the controversy about the Ballon d’Or 2021, which has been given to Lionel Messi instead of him.

Let’s hope this new experience will be a success and inspire him to lead the Polish national team to the final stage of the upcoming World Cup!
