Robert Lewandowski turns 36 and is still hungry for more

Poland’s iconic striker Robert Lewandowski has just marked his 36th birthday, bringing the inevitable conclusion of his career ever closer. That said, even if Lewy was to hang up his boots today, he would still be counted among the greatest to ever play the game.

Since his breakthrough with Dortmund in the early 2010s, the Polish forward has remained consistently among the world’s top number nines. His outstanding years at Bayern Munich solidified his place at the summit of world football by 2020, when – had it not been for the controversial cancellation of the ceremony – he would have undoubtedly claimed football’s most prestigious individual honour: the Ballon d’Or.

As our regular readers know well, Lewandowski’s statistics are simply staggering. He secured every major title with Bayern, including the Bundesliga, the Champions League, the DFB-Pokal, the DFL-Supercup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup – all within a single season. The numbers speak for themselves. Since 2009, Lewy has amassed 12 league titles (including 9 consecutive since 2015) and has scored 20 or more league goals in 11 different campaigns.

The Varsovian veteran did indeed somewhat slow down his breathtaking pace lately, but by no means should he be counted out. The best proof for that has been how he started his 2024/2025 season, scoring a brace against Valencia which offered FC Barcelona three points in the opening game of La Liga and making him the best scorer of the league from the very start of the season.

On the international stage, Robert Lewandowski holds both the record for the most caps (152) and the most goals (83) for Poland. For over a decade, he has been the White and Reds’ standout performer. He recently played his last Euro in Germany but could not find a way to qualify his country for the final stage of the competition.

What is left to achieve for the Polish sniper? Well, apart from trying yet again to win a Champions League with the Blaugranas and ending the season champion of Spain, Lewy is likely to let himself be tempted by one last dance on the international stage with the White and Reds.

The World Cup 2026 organised by the USA will take place just weeks before Lewandowski’s 38th birthday. Given the impressive shape he remains in despite his mid-30s, “Lewangoalski” can be expected to perform at the prestigious event if Poland manages to qualify. Until then, it looks like we have at least a couple of seasons of vintage Lewandowski to enjoy with the Catalonian giant.
